FIRST STORE SINCE 1822
FIRST STORE SINCE 1822 - YARD O LED OPENS IN THE
PICCADILLY ARCADE - 25 SEPTEMBER 2025
300 guests filled the Piccadilly Arcade on the evening of 25th September to celebrate the historic British writing instrument company YARD-O-LED’s first store in its 200 year
history.
The cocktail evening with live band closed off the historic arcade hosting friends of the brand Dame Mary Berry, Hugh Bonneville, Ben Shepherd, Charley Boorman and Richard Hammond. The crowded arcade was heaving with London’s luxury enthusiasts. Both pen and watch collectors made up the crowd.
The English brothers bought the YARD O LED brand in 2024. The traditional craft and heritage of the brand appeal to their sense engineering and their love of preserving British Industry. Birmingham, historically, was responsible for manufacturing three-quarters of the world’s nibs in the 19th Century.
Today, YARD-O-LED stands alone as the only pen maker in the city. Their ambition is to re-path the way for the British pen industry which they recognise as similar to how they first encountered the watch industry 20 years ago. After their phenomenal success creating and building the Bremont brand, YARD-O-LED is in safe hands.
Honouring the rich history of the brand, the store is to be a mecca for the ever rarified art of handwriting. Rather than only being a retail location, the store will look to champion the written word with complimentary postcards for customers to write and monthly events championing British literary figures.
The first floor bar will be a refuge from the busy streets of Piccadilly below. A bespoke bar with gleaming copper tiles has been fitted serving Rathfinny Sparkling wine from their Sussex vineyard estate. Friends of the brand can relax on the velvet sofa and chairs enjoying a slower pace of life which writing by hand compliments – be it journalling or writing the next best seller. YARD-O-LED's full range of writing instruments are available as well as a curated collection of vintage and pre owned pieces available to purchase, also a complimentary range of writing paper and leather goods, all handmade
in Britain are also be available.

Such a success story and so glad that the products will feature in such a prestigious, stand alone location in Piccadilly Arcade. Unfortunately, I have just returned from Australia and so was unable to attend the opening but, being the former UK Sales Director of Filofax in the 1990’s I have a very keen interest in the Yard O Led brand past, present and future. Please give my regards to Tim Tufnell and, be sure that I will visit the store very soon.

Congratulations on your opening. A Mecca to visit on my next London trip. I love every second that I use my inherited silver propelling pencil that you restored to life. Many thanks and best wishes for nurturing the art of proper handwriting!
